FAQ's

General

  1. Which is easier to maintain: Polished or Chrome?

    Polished:

First, Supreme Legends polishes our products to a show quality, chrome-like luster. To achieve this finish, we use multiple polishing compounds and only ship the items when we are completely satisfied with the finish. Please keep in mind, polished forward controls do take more time & effort to keep that high luster appearance. We recommend wiping the polished forward controls after each ride with a quality aluminum polish.

    Chrome:

Supreme Legends chromes all products prior to assembly. We hold our quality of chrome to the highest standards and guarantee you will be impressed by the finish. To keep your products looking brand new, we recommend that you simply wipe down all chrome components with a damp cloth after every ride.
  2. What do I do if my chrome chips or peels?

Supreme Legends offers an 18 month limited warranty on chrome. In the event you have any problems with your chrome, simply give us a call. If the chrome is determined to be flawed due to manufacturers defect, we will replace it free of charge. If however, the chrome was damaged as a result of a road hazard, poor maintenance, extreme weather conditions, or some other circumstance, Supreme Legends will not be responsible for repair or replacement.
  3. What kind of warranty does Supreme Legends offer with their product?

All products manufactured by Supreme Legends come with an 18 month manufacture's defect policy. In the event your product is found to have a defect, we reserve the right to replace or repair the item according to our discretion. Please see the 'Warranties' tab for more extensive information on our warranty policy.
  4. How easy is it to install Supreme Legends products on my bike?

Although it is relatively easy to install Supreme Legends products on most bikes, we recommend that you have your local bike shop install all items.  Though we include instructions for installation, your local shop will have the appropriate equipment for installation, including lifts, power bleeders, etc.  If you have chosen to install your own products and have run into difficulties please contact Supreme Legends direct, or contact your local Supreme Legends USA dealer.

Forward Controls

  1. How do I know if Supreme Legends forward controls will fit my bike?

With the exception of Harley-Davidson™ Sportsters, the Classic, Pro-Smooth & Premium controls will fit most Softail's (FXST) Dyna's, and FXR's for years 1958 to present. We have tested our product on most models. To ensure proper fit of Supreme Legends forward controls, we must know the make, model & year of your bike. While exceptions may exist, we have made every effort in designing our products to be as universal in application as possible.
  2. What finishes can I order my forward controls in?

We offer nearly all of our products in polished, chrome or black anodized finish. All products are polished to a show quality finish, whether they are chromed or anodized. Our bright dip black anodize process produces a lustrous finish better than a standard anodize and gives it a look similar to a powdercoat.
  3. Do Supreme Legends forward controls come with foot pegs?

Yes, the controls come complete, as pictured, on the Supreme Legends website.
  4. Does mounting hardware come with my forward controls?

Yes. All forward controls come with the necessary mounting bolts. Some controls (metric) also include the banjo brake switch, shift rod, and stainless brake line when necessary.
  5. My bike model has a designation other than FXST, butI know it's a Softail. Will your controls fit?

We understand that Harley-Davidson has made various Softail models & has created different variations of the FXST designation. However, the mounting bolt patterns are the same for all variations of the Softail, including Fat Boy, from 1984-1999 (3 mounting bolts on the left side, 2 on the right side). All 2000-present Softails, including Fat Boy, utilize a different mounting pattern (3 mounting bolts on either side) from the earlier bikes. All Softail models have the kickstand mounted on the left side forward control. When purchasing a set of forward controls for a 2000-present Softail, a 1999 & earlier kickstand bracket is required to re-mount your factory kickstand.
  6. My bike model a designation other than Dyna, but I know it's a Dyna. Will your controls fit?

We understand that Harley-Davidson has made various Dyna models & has created different variations of the FXD designation. However, the mounting bolt patterns are the same for all variations of the Dyna models. On this model, the kickstand is mounted to the frame. Both the brake side & shifter side have 2 mounting bolts, spaced 1½" apart, center-to-center.
  7. My bike model has a designation other than FXR, but I know it's a FXR. Will your controls fit?

We understand that Harley-Davidson has made various FXR models & has created different variations of the FXR designation. However, the mounting bolt patterns are the same for all variations of the FXR models, except for certain year Sturgis models (requires Dyna application). The kickstand is mounted to the frame on all FXR's. Both the brake side & the shifter side have 2 mounting bolts, spaced 2" apart, center-to-center.
  8. My bike is an Touring (FL) model; do your forward controls fit my bike?

We understand that Harley-Davidson has made many Touring models over the years & has created different variations of the FL designation. However, the mounting bolt patterns are the same as FXST’s for all variations of the FL from 1958-1999 (3 mounting bolts on the left side, 2 on the right side).  All 2000-present FL's utilize a different mounting pattern from the earlier bikes. All FL models have the kickstand mounted on the left side foot control. Please note, some late model applications may require modification to the mounting points on the bike frame. We recommend our adjustable II Bagger or III Bagger arm sets for 2000 and newer models.
  9. My bike is a custom Hardtail, Softail, Chopper, etc??? Which application do I need?

Mostly likely your bike will use a FXST 99/Under application. Please refer to the previous questions to determine the proper mount for your bike. In the event you are unable to determine the proper fit for you bike, please contact your local dealer or e-mail us at info@supremelegendsusa.com. We will be happy to respond to your question within 24 hours of receiving your e-mail.
  10. My bike is a late model Indian. Which application do I need?

All 1999-2006 Indian motorcycles will accept Harley-Davidson FXST, 1999 & under forward controls.
  11. I own a metric cruiser. Do you make controls for these bikes?

Currently we manufacture controls for numerous Yamaha cruisers, as well as Honda and Victory cruisers.
  12. Can I get replacement parts for my forward controls?

Yes, you can obtain any replacement part for your forward controls from Supreme Legends. Simply contact  us directly, so that we may ensure you are getting the appropriate parts for your control.
  13. Do you offer extended forward controls?

Yes. Supreme Legends offers all FXST, Dyna and FXR models in 2” Extended models. We also offer a 3” extended version for FXST models only.( Please note: 3" extended controls will not work on Fat Boy and FL models.)
  14. How do I know if I need extended forward controls?

Supreme Legends recommends that if you are between 6'0" and 6'4", you consider purchasing 2" extended controls forward controls. This will enable you to obtain a more comfortable leg position and thus enjoy a better ride. 3" extended forward controls are recommended for riders over 6'4".
  15. Do you offer folding front foot pegs?

Yes, Supreme Legends offers folding front foot pegs on all controls, excluding ribbed or diamond controls.
  16. Can I replace the: front foot pegs, shifter toe peg and/or brake toe peg?

Yes, all of the pegs are removable. However, we recommend that you make sure the pegs you are going to use as replacements have the same thread count and bore size as those provided with the forward controls.
  17. Can I change the position of the shifter & brake arms?

Yes-but with some restrictions. Brake arms may be adjusted up or down in 30 degree increments. In order to do this, the end cap must be removed. Supreme Legends controls are assembled individually, including shims, etc. to insure the best possible fit and action for the performance of the unit. The shift side controls on older model controls included a straight knurled shaft, which was swaged into the shift arms and shift linkage arm. Though they can be removed for adjustment, we do not recommend it. Models purchased from Supreme (built since 2009) include splined arms and shift shaft to allow complete adjustability.
  18. Do you offer matching rear/passenger pegs and/or grips?

Yes, we have matching rear pegs and grips for each of our controls. Please refer to the corresponding web pages for descriptions & part #'s.
  19. Tell me about the master cylinder you use with your forward controls.

Supreme Legends manufactures the master cylinder housing in-house. We offer an 3/4" bore with our controls.  Supreme Legends master cylinders are designed to work with 99.9% of braking systems currently available and are D.O.T. 5 ready.
  20. Why doesn't Supreme Legends supply the brake line and shift linkage for my bike?

Though Supreme does offer brake lines and shift rods for some metric applications, the brake line required for installation on different HD models and extended controls, varies with bike model and year. Thus, we recommend you consult your local dealer for the proper application. We do not supply a shift linkage with our forward controls because off the dizzying array of options currently on the market. As such, we leave it to the owners discretion to order a standard polished or chrome shift linkage or a designer billet or stainless steel linkage.
  21. Do Supreme Legends forward controls use bearings or bushings?

Supreme Legends uses a very durable Oilite oil impregnated bushing to insure smooth action. Due to the minor amount of movement actually seen on the levers,  Supreme Legends has determined that bushings are a far better application on forward controls than bearings. Additionally, Harley-Davidson uses bushings in their stock controls. Bearings are best used in an application where the component rotates in excess of 180 degrees. The application in a forward control rotates less than 10 degrees. Thus, the surface area friction with bushings is distributed over a greater area, causing less stress on the applied area.
  22. I can't seem to maintain pressure in my master cylinder after I bleed the brake system. Is there something wrong with the unit?

Because of the many variables that exist relative to fitting custom parts on your bike, there a few simple steps that need to be taken, to ensure proper brake actuation. First, make sure that the set nut on the brake rod is backed off to allow at least 1" of front-to-back free play in the brake arm. Now, bleed you brakes according to standard procedure. Lastly, once a solid & consistent brake pressure has been achieved, adjust the brake arm free play to your liking.

If your are still having difficulty maintaining pressure, you may have small concentrations of air in the system. Supreme Legends recommends that your local dealer power bleed your line, while following the procedure outlined above.
